In the rotating scene of traffic safety, an incident recently occurred in Sottrum, which not only caused a sensation, but also illustrates the dangers of alcohol at the wheel. A 55-year-old man got into a dangerous situation on Tuesday evening, while he was behind the wheel of a small car with over 2.5 per thousand blood alcohol content when he rammed two parked cars and then simply looked for the width. Witnesses told the police at 8:30 p.m. on the riots in Bergstrasse when the man fled from the accident site at a breathtaking pace after he had first touched a BMW and then a smart.

The police were able to act quickly thanks to the attentive witnesses who noted the license plate of the fleeing vehicle. A striped team made their way to the specified owner address, but disappointed that the accident car could not be found there. But the search finally achieved success: the driver was found on Kreisstraße 201, where he was slightly injured in his vehicle. He promptly confessed the incident, and the police immediately noticed that he was heavily alcoholic. In persistent concern about his condition, he had to undergo several blood tests in order to rule out further possible alcohol consumption after his collision. It also turned out that the man was not in possession of a valid driver's license. The damage caused by the accident amounts to several thousand euros. Fortunately, no one was injured apart from the person who caused the accident.

But Sottrum was not the only place where alcohol enjoyment led to problematic situations. On the following Thursday, concerned road users in Zeven reported from a driver who was uncertain and in serpentine lines. The vehicle could be stopped in Elsdorf a little later. During the check, it turned out that the 53-year-old driver was also under the influence of alcohol, a breath alcohol test showed almost 2 per thousand. The driver's license and the vehicle key had to be taken away to avoid further dangers and to ensure safety on the streets.

alcohol consumption is not the only risk of taking the driver in the region. Another incident that occurred on Thursday illuminates the dangers of drug use in road traffic. In Rotenburg, an 18-year-old biker was checked by the police. Because of his uncertain driving behavior, he noticed the officials. During a more detailed examination, references to the consumption of cannabis and amphetamines were discovered. A urine test confirmed the suspicions and the young man had a recipe for a possibly amphetamine drug. Whether this was sufficient is now clarified by the results of a blood test.

In turn in Bremervörde, another episode takes place that takes up the topic of accident. On Wednesday afternoon, a 39-year-old man parked his blue VW Passat in front of Dr. med. Agnes Müller. When he returned shortly afterwards, he found his exterior mirror damaged. If this incident is to be attributed, it remains unclear, and the police are asking possible witnesses for clues to determine the cause.

In the same time, another accident occurred in Bülstedt, in which a 21-year-old motorcyclist was injured. A 19-year-old driver who wanted to turn from the district road overlooked the oncoming biker. This collision led to injuries to the young man and documented another danger in road traffic, caused by a lack of attention and experience.

The steadily growing admonitions on traffic safety and the awareness of the further risks in road traffic seem more urgent than ever. The police and road users are challenged to protect themselves and others. It remains to be hoped that the recent incidents will serve as lessons to deal responsibly with the topic of alcohol and drugs, because every traffic accident not only represents a danger to the polluter, but for all citizens on the streets.
