Experiences with shock calls: Warning among neighbors

In August 2023, an older couple in Hollern-Twielenfleth experienced a shocking fraud. On a telephone call, a woman initially pretended to be the daughter of the couple. This indicates how easy it can be to abuse trust. In the further course, another voice reported that spoke out as a police officer and claimed that the daughter was involved in a serious car accident. The caller claimed that the daughter was now in custody and could be released against payment of a deposit.

The process of fraud

After the shocking call, the couple found that they were under enormous pressure and asked if they had money or jewelry at home. In an emotional and hectic situation, they finally handed over gold and jewelry worth several ten thousand euros. An unknown pick -up appeared at the front door and received the valuable objects while the couple was overwhelmed and unsafe.

security measures and prevention

The police have now called up the public to be vigilant and report such fraudulent phone calls. Police spokesman Rainer Bohmbach warns that such incidents should be taken seriously. "Put on immediately if you receive such a call. Neither the police nor the public prosecutor would make such claims by phone," he emphasizes. It is important to inform the neighbors and relatives, especially older fellow citizens, about these fraud stitches. Many seniors could easily get into such a trap, which can lead to a loss of their savings.

fraudsters in the region? Searched for information

In the course of the investigation, the police were able to identify a suspected pick -up that was recorded by a surveillance camera. This man is described as about 32-34 years old, about 160 cm tall, with the Mediterranean appearance and dark hair. There are indications that he could possibly also be involved in other fraud cases nationwide. The police ask for help from the public: "Who knows this person or can give information about their identity?"

bring together a community

It shows how important it is to be aware of as a community and to support each other. Fraudsters often use the isolation of older people to carry out their actions undisturbed. Open communication in neighborhoods can help prevent such incidents and strengthen the feeling of security. Take an active responsibility to your neighbors and share information about fraud stitches to promote the safety of the entire community.
