cyclist in and Aichach-Friedberg Collect kilometers for rail bonuses
In the districts of Augsburg and Aichach-Friedberg, cyclists now have the opportunity to collect kilometers driven with the DB Rad Rad+ app and exchange them for premiums with partners. The aim of the app is to promote environmentally friendly mobility and at the same time collect anonymous bicycle routes in order to improve the wheel infrastructure more specifically.
The opinions of the district administrators to the campaign
Both the Augsburg district administrator Martin Sailer and his colleague from Aichach-Friedberg, Klaus Metzger, welcome the link between bike and rail. You see the campaign as a good way to drive cycling in your counties and further improve the cycle paths. The merging of the action area with the city of Augsburg enables cycles that are automatically counted across the Region.
According to Melanie Kuchenbecker, head of the responsible station management of Deutsche Bahn, the strong link between bicycle and train in Bavaria is crucial to promote environmentally friendly mobility in the city and in the country.
This is how the app works in the city and district of Augsburg
The app recognizes using GPS when users move on a bike, counts and stores the kilometers driven and calculates a mileage. Partners can redeem this credit directly with the partners. The app is available free of charge for both iOS and Android operating systems and does not require registration.
The list of participating partners, including local shops, cultural institutions and cafés, as well as digital offers such as DB travel vouchers can be found in the app and at Bahnhof.de/radpluszu. The app started in Bavaria in autumn 2020 and is now used in fifteen municipalities of all seven government districts.
