Habitat for dogs: New project transforms dog meadows into oasis

Lately, the dog meadow on Zwickauer Straße, a popular place of residence for dogs and its owners, has to report gratifying news. An initiative to improve this community facility takes on forms that should benefit both humans and animals. The CEO of Sparkasse Altenburger Land, Bernd Wannenwetsch, recently handed over a symbolic check for 3300 euros to Mayor André Neumann to finance the implementation of these changes.

Green oases create: trees and flower hedges

An essential aspect of the project is planting three trees, including a black pine, a tulip tree and a tongue tree. These tree species were selected in a targeted manner because they can thrive even in times of climate change. They are known to grow quickly on nutrient -poor soils and at the same time offer a valuable habitat for insects and birds. In addition, the installation of flower hedges will contribute not only to optically upgrade the area, but also to promote biodiversity.

commitment of the community

The initiative is supported by the association "Hope for Wild Ducks, Swans and Co", which also installed new play equipment for dogs on the dog meadow. This approach shows how important it is to work together to improve the quality of life in the community. Such measures not only beautify the public space, but also strengthen the coexistence of the dog owners.

background of the dog meadow

The dog meadow extends over an area of around 3,500 square meters and was redesigned and fenced by the city in 2022. Since then, this place has developed into a popular meeting place for dog owners in the area. The planned improvements should increase the attractiveness and functionality of this place so that it remains even longer than green oasis in urban space.
