New life for the post site in Leonberg: demolition work will start soon
In Leonberg there is a large construction project that interests many citizens and business owners. The area of the Alte Post, a central point of the city, will be demolished from the end of September. This mammoth project is not only a structural, but also a social redesign, since it is part of the international building exhibition Stuttgart 2027. The conversion will change the way in which residents and visitors experience the city center.
The demolition includes the distance of the old buildings, which in the past were considered rather unattractive. In total, new uses are to be created on the area of 1.8 hectares, including local supply, retail, gastronomy, office space, medical practices and subsidized living space. The aim is to create a lively connection between the old town and the new town. The demolition is carried out gradually, starting with the clearing of the six existing buildings, followed by the pollutant renovation in which dangerous materials are removed professionally.
a planned time frame
The project is implemented in several phases. The construction site will be set up from September. In October, the preparatory work and clearing out are on the plan, followed by the pollutant renovation and gnawing of the buildings from mid -October. The actual dismantling of the buildings is scheduled to start in November 2024 and be completed by the end of March 2025. This tight schedule shows the will of the city to drive the project forward quickly.
But one of the central concerns of the city administration is to keep the impairments for residents and road users as low as possible. For this purpose, the Eltingen footpath is opened during the demolition work and a footpath on both sides remains on Eltinger Strasse. Nevertheless, some restrictions are inevitable, but they are communicated beforehand.
With the demolition of the old concrete block, the yellow-gray face of which many Leonberger are familiar, a step into a new era is dared to take. Previous projects in the Nuven Mitte, such as the new town hall and the Samaritan pencil, show that Leonberg is actively trying to have a modern, appealing urban design. The new city garden, in which the excavators are currently rolling, is further proof that the city is planning to not only renew its structure, but also to enrich.
The city administration has announced that the public regularly inform the public. Information is available on the urban website, in official pages, social media and press releases. This commitment ensures that citizens are up to date with all relevant developments.
The positive effects of the redesign are within reach. In view of the upcoming changes, expectations are high that the new post site will be a living and attractive contact point for the entire community. It remains to be seen what this vision will look like in reality and what new opportunities will open up with the completion.
