Summer hit 2024: Does the waiting for the music surprise still strike?
Summer hit 2024: Does the waiting for the music surprise still strike?
Baden-Baden-The search for this year's summer hit is as challenging in Germany. GfK Entertainment, responsible for the official German charts, reports that so far there has been no clear contender for the title. "Summer has long been a long time-and the summer hit also takes time," said the Charts investigator.
The trend is
compared to previous years, there was already a similar trend in 2023. Last year it also lasted until the end of August before "Girls on Horse" was declared an officially recognized summer hit. While DJ Robin & apron dominated the charts very early on in 2021, the current summer shows significantly less movement in this area.
Missing hits from the Ballermann scene
The expectations of a continuation of the classic Ballermann hits have so far been disappointed. Only a few songs, such as "Oberkart" by Isi Glück and Marc Eggers, as well as "up without" Julian Sommer, have attracted some attention, but could not get beyond the typical party boundaries. Interestingly, Mickie Krause just celebrated the 25th anniversary of his most famous hits "Ten naked hairdressers".
impressive summer hit history
In the past, even unknown artists managed to land summer hits. For example, "Dragostea Din Tei" from O-Zone and "Macarena" by Los del Rio became large street and party crackers. A remarkable change in recent years has been the fact that even established artists such as Ed Sheeran and Shawn Mendes were able to achieve the summer hit title.
potential contenders for 2024
But hope for a new hit remains. Among the potential summer hit candidates is “I like the way you kiss me” by Artemas, a British music producer. This piece, which gained popularity through its use in social media such as Tikularity, combines a post-punk instrumental with high-frequency voices.
Another promising title is "Move" by Adam Port, Stryv, no music, Orso & Malachiii. Adam Port has not established itself internationally with his collective and his music reflects the typical summer evening sound - ideal for festivals and club appearances.
classic influences in new hits
A fascinating example of the connection between nostalgia and modernity is the track "Pedro", a new version of the Italo disco classic from Raffaella Carrà. This new interpretation takes the listeners into the flair of Italian summer vacation with all its clichés of Pizza, Vespa and ice cream.
The uncertainty about this year's summer hit shows that the music market is changing and the tastes change. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether one of the current candidates can prevail and the German music scene is still surprising.
