Commuters in MV: Replacement buses while blocking the railway line ensure frustration

The upcoming full closure of the railway line between Berlin and Hamburg has a significant impact on commuters in northern Germany and arouses the public's interest in the quality of passenger transport. The Pro Bahn passenger association expresses sharp criticism of the upcoming replacement measures, which in their opinion are not sufficient to meet the needs of travelers.

replacement traffic causes confusion

From Friday evening, the railway line between Hamburg and Berlin will be closed until mid -December. This has direct consequences for numerous travelers, especially for commuters from Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, who travel regularly between the cities of Schwerin, Wismar, Rostock, Güstrow, Stralsund and the Baltic Sea coast. According to Pro Bahn, this development has not been clearly communicated for many passengers. So far, striking information at train stations can hardly be found, which contributes to the confusion.

poor information policy

The chairman of the Pro Bahn-Standesverband Hamburg/Schleswig-Holstein, Stefan Barkleit, criticizes that information policy is inadequate compared to previous closures. In the case of the Riedbahn between Frankfurt and Mannheim, the preliminary information was significantly more visible and timely. This leaves travelers in the uncertainty about how to adapt their trip.

insufficient offer for commuters

Replacement traffic, which is offered between Hamburg and places in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, is inadequate. Instead of the regular regional express compounds, only a bus drives that runs from less frequented train stations. This means that travelers may be at the "wrong" departure location at Hamburg Central Station. An IC bus operates the connection to Schwerin only six times a day, whereby the connection options for trips to Rostock and Stralsund only work twice a day.

bottlenecks and missing connections

The concerns of the passenger association are also directed against the capacities in the means of transport. Between Lübeck and Bad Kleinen, on the route to Rostock and Schwerin, a fear of overcrowding with the small railcars is feared, which could lead to an unpleasant travel experience. The lack of connection in the evening is particularly problematic at 8.40 p.m. to Schwerin, which is urgently needed.

outlook on future renovations

Pro Bahn announces that the inadequate planning of replacement traffic is not sustainable even in view of the closures that have been announced for the years 2025 and 2026. The association calls for more comprehensive and needs -based planning to ensure that the commuters can continue to come from A to B. The apelled call to improve could become even more decisive for commuters in the coming months.

Overall, this situation illustrates the need for more transparency and better planned transport offers in order to meet the needs of travelers and not to lose the connection in a time of traffic closures.
