Fire Brigade Diversity at the CSD: Colorful Parade in Cologne with 80 members
“Firefighters are sending a sign of diversity on the Christopher Street Day in Cologne”
Next Sunday, July 21st, the time has come again: Around 80 members of the “Diversity” network of the Fire Brigade Association (VDF) North Rhine-Westphalia will gather in Cologne to take part in the large parade of Christopher Street Day (CSD). This year they will be accompanied by the fire brigades Cologne and Sankt Augustin. The aim is to present the diversity and tolerance within the fire brigades in NRW and the CSD motto "For human rights-many. Together. Strong!" to support. The firefighters will lead the colorful and peaceful demonstration through the streets of Cologne city center in front of the backdrop of an estimated 1.5 million viewers.
The participants of the “Diversity” network are accompanied by two emergency vehicles, which are made available by the fire brigades Cologne and St. Augustin. Among the guests who accompany the network are also prominent personalities such as Mayor Susanne Stupp from Frechen and State Youth Fire Brigade Leon Pleuger. Special thanks go to the comrades of the Köln-Kalk deletion, who act as hosts for the network.
The “Diversity” network of VDF NRW was founded in 2018 to support underrepresented groups within the fire departments. Regular meetings have the opportunity to exchange, network and ask questions about the topic of LSBTIQ through regular meetings. More information about the network and contact options are available on the website www.feuerwehrverband.nrw/ variety.
The commitment of the fire brigade women and men at the CSD in Cologne impressively shows that diversity and tolerance are of great importance within the fire departments. Participation in such events helps to promote acceptance and understanding of different ways of life in society and shows that all people are strong together, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
