Bottrop-Kirchhellen helps Ukraine: Collection campaigns for the need
Bottrop-Kirchhellen. The aid campaigns of the Kirchhellen Kolping family for Ukraine show the continued solidarity and the use of the community in difficult times. Various collection actions will be planned in the coming weeks to meet the needs of those affected. Here are the details.
The importance of engagement
In view of the current situation in Ukraine, the Kirchhellen Kolping Family took the initiative to help the civilian population. The co-initiator Helmut Brauckmann emphasizes: "The everyday objects we collect are vital for many people there." The local people still suffer from enormous defects, and the collection of everyday objects and medical materials is more necessary than ever.future collection campaigns and their organization
The Kolping Family plans the collection campaigns in three main weekends: On 6th and 7th and on September 13th and 14th, the citizens can hand in household items in the parish of St. Johannes. These donations that comprise pots, pans and other important everyday objects are then brought directly to Ukraine by Igor Denysiuk and the German-Ukrainian Association Opora.
from lights to vital goods
So far, the Kirchhelleners have collected old candles and wax residues in earlier actions, which were processed into highlight lights to donate light and warmth. This type of help was important before, as there were many people there without electricity. But now the focus is on vital goods. The challenges of the logistical organization
The organization of the collection campaigns also brings logistical challenges. "We want to make sure that everything is in order and only the urgently needed things are collected," explains Pastor Christoph Potowski. Collecting electrical appliances requires significantly more sorting work than before, and the Kolping Family asks not to donate a defective electronic waste so that the volunteers do not make the work unnecessarily difficult.
maintaining attention for the needy
"Unfortunately, the painful topic is no longer perceived as much as at the beginning of the crisis," says Pastor Potowski. It is therefore of enormous importance to continue to make people aware of the necessities. The next round of the collection is planned for October, then medical devices such as walking aids and wheelchairs as well as association material should be collected.
final help in winter
In winter, the last phase of this auxiliary campaign with the collecting of candles and wax residues continues to provide people in the competitive areas even during the cold months. Helmut Brauckmann emphasizes: "This assignment shows us the dimension of suffering that the population actually has to endure." The cohesion of the community underlines the importance of help for Ukraine.
