suspect in the Valeriia case back in Germany
In a surprising turn, the suspect was transferred from Döbeln to Germany in the case of the tragically killed nine -year -old Valeriia. Czech police officers handed over the 36-year-old at the border with German authorities.
The man is now to be brought to Chemnitz, where he will appear in front of an investigative judge. There the arrest warrant is opened to him and he will have the opportunity to comment on the allegations, said chief prosecutor Ingrid Burghart.
Valeriia had disappeared without a trace on June 3 on the way to school in Döbeln. After an intensive search, her body was found in the undergrowth of a forest. The suspect, a Moldovan, is suspected of having killed the girl. So far there is no evidence of sexual abuse.
It is reported that the man was the ex-boyfriend of Valeriia's mother. He was arrested by Czech police officers after he was found in a restaurant in Prague. The exact motive for the girl's death is still unclear because the public prosecutor did not provide any information on how Valeriia died.
Valeriia had fled with her mother in 2022 before the war in Ukraine and attended the primary school in Döbeln. She has now been buried in her old home Pawlohrad in eastern Ukraine.
