From the eyesore to the living dream: supermarket in Burg is being rebuilt!
Burg, Deutschland - in Burg, Dithmarschen, a supermarket, which has been empty for years, is converted into a modern residential building. Civil engineer Peter Aschinger, who previously bought there, runs the project, which will create 13 apartments, including eight in the former sales room. The renovation includes extensive renovation work, including moving in new walls and installing underfloor heating. Aschinger plans to bring the building to the latest energetic standard in order to reduce energy consumption by half.
The project costs around 3.5 million euros and benefits from grants from the loan institution for reconstruction that make the renovation economically attractive. Experts estimate that similar conversions in Schleswig-Holstein could create up to 80,000 apartments, since many commercial space and offices are empty after pandemic. Aschinger is optimistic that the renovation will be completed by February 2025, and sees it a chance for his engineering office to establish itself in a growing market.
