The district council decides on Geopark visitor centers: Six locations are planned
The importance of the new geopark for the Donau-Ries region
In the Donau-Ries district, an important step was taken to promote tourism and regional identity. In a meeting on Thursday morning, the district council decided to build up to six Geopark-Ries visitor centers. This decision could have a positive effect on various communities in the district and increase their local attractiveness.
locations and their importance
The planned locations for the Geopark visitor centers are Nördlingen, Mönchsdeggingen, Harburg, Wallerstein, Oettingen and Wemding. These cities are not only culturally and historically significant, but also offer great potential for the development of tourism. The settlement of such centers expected more visitors to come to the region, which can also boost local retail and gastronomy.
Financial support for builders
The financing of the construction projects is supported by generous subsidies from the district. A total of 12 million euros will be made available. The municipalities themselves are the builders of the visitor centers, which guarantees a direct impact on the local economy. In Mönchsdeggingen it is planned to use the former indoor pool Almarin as a location instead of the monastery, which is a creative approach to reviving an old building.
a step into the future
Although the district council has made a fundamental decision, the individual projects must still be approved separately in the committee. This shows that the implementation is carried out carefully. The decision for decentralized solutions could serve as a model for other regions that plan similar tourism -promoting initiatives.
The big picture: Geopark as an identity factor
The creation of geoparks is not only an economic step, but also an opportunity for the respective region to present its geological and cultural peculiarities. This not only raises awareness of local history and nature, but also creates an incentive for the citizens to deal with their homeland. The planned visitor centers could thus become an emotional anchor and an important identity factor for people in the Donau-Ries district.
