London (dpa)-Jan-Lennard Struff wrote a new chapter in his tennis career at Wimbledon. The Davis Cup player from Warstein reached the third round of the renowned Rasurnier in London. After an exciting match, he defeated the Chinese player Zhang Zhizhen with 5: 7, 6: 3, 7: 6 (7: 1), 7: 6 (10: 8) and thus moved into the next round.
The fight against the elements
The match from Struff was influenced by rainy weather and numerous shifts. Despite a difficult phase in the first sentence in which Struff lost his service and had to hand over the sentence, the 34-year-old Profi showed mental strength and fought back into play. After a rain break, he managed to turn the match and defeat his opponent.
In the upcoming round of 16, Struff meets the talented Russian player Daniil Medvedev, against whom he had already started in Wimbledon 2021. The upcoming duel promises excitement and challenge for the German tennis professional.
further German successes and hopes
In addition to Struff's outstanding success, there was also gratifying news from Jule Niemeier, who moved into the next round with a clear victory against Viktorija Golubic. In contrast, Daniel Altmaier had to wait for his second round game, which was postponed due to the rain and is expected to be held on Thursday.
The German tennis fans may be excited about further exciting matches and hopefully further successes by their representatives in Wimbledon. Struff's performance clearly shows that the German tennis landscape with talented players like it can exist in the international tennis circus.
