45 years later: Bonn police open the Cold Case by Claudia Wilbert

The investigation into an unsolved murder case that took place almost 45 years ago are revived. The Cold Case Group of the Bonn police took on the mysterious killing of 17-year-old Claudia Wilbert, whose body was discovered in 1979 in a hiking car park near Bad Münstereifel-Scheuren.

On March 30, 1979, a walker made a shocking discovery: Claudia Wilbert's body. It was last seen on March 28, 1979 around 10:10 p.m. in the Rheinbach city park. Eyewitnesses reported that she had risen into a light car that was driven by an unknown young man. This crucial observation is one of the main traces that the police pursue in their investigation.

suspicious vehicle and witness call

The vehicle is described as light (white, beige or light gray) and is characterized by a sloping rear and a small, defined window at the back. The taillights stand vertically on top of each other, and the radiator grille is horizontal. This detailed description could be crucial to gain new information.

The police raised several important questions to collect more information:

  • Do you have information about the crime or the perpetrator?
  • In the late 1970s or early 1980s there were negative experiences with a driver in the Rheinbach, Euskirchen or Bonn?
  • Do you know someone who has had similar experiences?

The Cold Case investigators encourage everyone who has information to report. This can be done via the telephone hotline 0228 15-0 or by email to kk11.bonn@Polizei.nrw.de. On September 11, the case will be presented in the ZDF show "File number XY ... unresolved", in the hope that new testimonies could lead to the mysterious case and the perpetrator sought.

The resumption of these investigations is not only a sign of determination on the part of the police, but also from a broader movement towards a more extensive education of old, unsolved cases that are often forgotten in society. This case throws a light on the challenges of crime education and the need to rely on a fellow passenger for many years after a crime in order to contribute to justice for the victims and their relatives. Every little piece of the puzzle could be crucial for progress in this case.
