The new, golden tower cross of the parish church of St. Laurentius in Haag has been shining in its magnificent since its consecration. It was installed as part of a comprehensive renovation of the church building and now adorns the church top at 33 meters. This special ceremony took place in August and attracted numerous members of the community.

Father Ignatius Kullu Opraem, the parish administrator of the association, directed the consecration, surrounded by the fragrant atmosphere of incense and the spraying holy water. On this solemn day, both municipal representatives as well as the site manager Christoph Ziegltrum and the church nurse Martin Senger were present to celebrate this historical moment.

time capsules in the new cross

An exciting element of the new cross is the time capsule integrated in it. Christoph Kaulfuss, the chairman of the parish council, reports that this capsule not only contains current information from 2024, but also important documents and collages that document the recently carried out renovation work of the church. Among the contemporary witnesses are also contemporary euro coins as well as numerous documents from the current parish team.

But the capsule also harbors even more: the community also integrated two older capsules, including one from 1973 and another from 1924. The latter was rediscovered in the renovation of 1973 and contains many contemporary witnesses from an era full of inflation when bread already exorbitant prices of several billion marks cost. Such information provides an impressive information about how the economic environment has changed since then and how the community managed this challenge through its belief and cohesion.

Due to the close cooperation with various local companies, including the Florian Böck GbR for gilding and the art smell of ripe for the assembly, the parish was also able to appreciate the craft of the renovation. These companies were significantly involved in integrating the new cross not only as a religious symbol, but also as a work of art into the community.

Father Kaulfuss emphasizes that the new cross is not only a visual enrichment for the parish, but is also a lasting memory of past times and the unshakable faith of the village population. Radiantly visible from the distance, it shows people that St. Laurentius as a place of faith and the community has achieved a new shine again.
