A remarkable use: Dr. Gerd Hohenberger, an orthopedist from Fulda, has been traveling to Tanzania regularly since 2008 to volunteer children and adolescents together with other doctors. His work mainly focuses on the treatment of malpositions such as Klumpfößen and X- and O-EBE positions.

The Nkoaranga Lutheran Hospital at the foot of Mount Meru near Arusha serves as a point of contact for the patients from all over Tanzania, who either have no health insurance or cannot afford operations for their children. This does the work of Dr. Hohenberger and his team are particularly important because they provide medical care for those in need that they would otherwise not receive.

During his annual mission, which is part of his vacation, Dr. Hohenberger together with Dr. Annemarie Schraml and the fire children team through around 89 operations. Cooperation with local doctors and nursing staff is an integral part of the mission, as they can exchange knowledge and experience and learn from each other.
