A tragic incident shaked the residents of the small community of Oberau last Tuesday afternoon. A 37-year-old local was on the Ettaler Berg when his car collided with a coach that promoted foreign tourists.

The Oberauer was seriously injured by the force of the impact and had to be brought to the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Clinic by the rescue workers with polytrauma. In addition, five passengers from the coach suffered slight to moderate injuries and were treated in surrounding hospitals. The 80-year-old bus driver could not prevent the collision despite all efforts.

Extensive damage and massive impairment of the traffic

The collision led to considerable damage to property on both vehicles, which the police estimated at least 20,000 euros. In order to clear the scene of the accident, federal road 23 had to be completely closed for about two hours.
