International German Olympics - a celebration of language and culture

The International German Olympics is not just a mere language competition, but rather a celebration of diversity, learning and intercultural exchange. In Goettingen, 107 talented young people from 62 countries gather to show their knowledge of German and to compete in various competitions. This event is a highlight for language learners worldwide and offers a platform to experience and share the German language and culture.

The participants between the ages of 14 and 17 have qualified through national excretion competitions and compete in individual and group tasks, including lectures and creative tasks. The Museum Forum Wissen is the venue for these exciting challenges in which the young people demonstrate their skills.

The IDO, which takes place every two years in different German cities, is organized by the Goethe-Institut in cooperation with the International German Teachers' Association. Their goal is to promote international youth, to arouse love for the German language and to enable access to German culture and education. In addition, the Olympics contributes to strengthening tolerance and intercultural understanding by bringing young people from different countries together

The young people not only have the opportunity to improve their language skills, but also to establish new friendships and to attend important companies such as Sartorius, Ottobock, the German Space Center and the Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research. These insights into the German economy and research help to expand the horizon of the participants and to deepen their enthusiasm for the German language.

The exchange during IDO not only promotes learning, but also openness to other cultures and creates long -lasting friendships. The annual gala event in Göttingen recognizes the winners in the various language categories and rewarded their commitment and hard work with impressive prices. This celebration of language and culture is an inspiring event that emphasizes the importance of intercultural dialogue and mutual respect.
