Fatal accident in Göttingen: Process has developed into a lengthy drama
In the night of October 1, 2023, a tragic incident occurred in Göttingen that still deals with legal processing. A serious accident, which finally ended with the death of one of the participants, now runs over several trial days at the Göttingen district court.
The process that started on September 4 ensures lively interest because a 25-year-old from Essen has to answer. The defendant is suspected of causing a forbidden motor vehicle race, in which there was fatal consequences. Initially two trial days were planned, but due to the extensive taking of evidence and the complexity of the case, two further appointments were set.
Details of the accident come to light
On the third day of the trial, a police officer reported who carried out the accident driver's questioning in the hospital. From his statement it shows that the 25-year-old was heavily alcoholic at the time of the accident, but could not provide any consistent information about the circumstances of the accident. It was known about the companion of the accused, who had been in the hospital room at the time in question, that she was living in Arenshausen as a friend.
The accusations against the young people are serious. On the night of the accident, the accused was traveling with his BMW 735i towards Göttingen. The expert who was commissioned to reconstruct the events found that the two vehicles collided almost head -on, which led to considerable damage and injuries.
technical analyzes and expert reports
A crucial part of the procedure are the results of a so-called accident reconstruction report, which was created by a Dekra expert. This examined the accident site and the vehicles involved over a period of two and a half hours. The results show that the defendant's BMW drove at a speed of 120 to 135 km/h, while the Audi A3 of the 31-year-old driver was only between 55 and 60 km/h.
The expert also noticed that the accused may have made an alternative maneuver before the collision. This could indicate that he had seen a pedestrian or another vehicle. However, the defendant's defense lawyer expressed concerns about the thoroughness of the report and called it "completely inadequate", since in his opinion essential points were not sufficiently examined.
The process continues in the following months, which is a demanding situation for everyone involved both legally and emotionally. The district court has discussed a comprehensive review of the evidence and witnesses in order to be able to make a fair judgment.
