Accessibility in Mörfelden-Walldorf: steps into an inclusive future

measures for accessibility in the focus of urban development

In the city of Mörfelden-Walldorf, numerous initiatives have recently been taken to improve the accessibility for all citizens: inside. In order to raise awareness of the needs of people with disabilities, the volunteer disabled person's representative Liselotte Körner plays a crucial role in this process.

The role of Liselotte Körner

Liselotte Körner is closely linked to the city administration and the city planning and building authority. She brings her expertise to ensure that new projects meet the requirements for accessibility and inclusion. "It is important to plan barrier -free from the start," emphasizes Mayor Thomas Winkler. Your work is crucial to jointly develop concepts and strategies for creating a continuous barrier -free public space.

implementation of projects

In November 2022, a comprehensive package of measures was decided in the city council, which was based on an in -depth inspection. Soon afterwards, several projects were successfully implemented. In addition to the accessibility in the outdoor area of the "Golden Apple" beer garden, the toilet facility in the Mörfelden cemetery was also redesigned in 2023. In addition, the Margit-Horváth Foundation in Walldorf received the urgently needed barrier-free access in January 2024 by installing a Hublift.

public areas in the focus

So far, there was a lack of barrier -free facilities in the region. "Many people are often not aware of which hurdles people with disabilities have to overcome in everyday life," explains first city councilor Karsten Groß. The continuous exchange of ideas and experiences between the disabled person and the urban planning office is therefore essential to find solutions that are useful for the entire community.

The importance of accessibility

accessibility is regarded by those responsible as an important step towards an inclusive society. "Accessibility is not an additional project, but a fundamental right," explains Sebastian Hösch, head of the social and housing office. This commitment will also be continued in future projects, including the planned conversion of a daycare center to take into account the needs of children with disabilities.

a step in the right direction

The conversion to the barrier -free toilet is also largely funded by the disabled person. "I always had inquiries from citizens: inside who wanted a barrier -free toilet at the cemetery," explains Körner. After completing the construction work, wheelchair users can now also use these important facilities in the inside and mobility.

Future view

Mayor Winkler confirms: "We have already achieved a lot, but there are still numerous projects that we want to tackle." The continuous efforts show that Mörfelden-Walldorf is on the right track to become a city for everyone. The initiatives should not only improve access to buildings and facilities, but also increase awareness in society.
