Fire sample in action: frigate Hamburg against Huthi rebels
"Inadequate protection of the Hamburg frigate against Huthi rebels in the Red Sea"
The frigate "Hamburg" embarks on a dangerous mission in the Red Sea to protect merchant ships from the attacks of the Huthi rebels. The Bundeswehr ship recently left the port in Wilhelmshaven and sets sail with a crew of around 240 people.
technical problems threaten the mission of the frigate
However, a serious problem is the lack of a decisive radar device that could locate ballistic anti-ship rockets. Despite this lack, the "Hamburg" is still able to ward off such attacks, assures Marco Thiele, the chairman of the Navy at the Bundeswehr Association.
Nevertheless, there is discomfort under the crew due to the missing radar. In conversations with members of the navy, a risky "Ascension Command" was even spoken of. In order to prepare for the upcoming mission, the warship will initially go to Crete to carry out shooting exercises and to gain trust in operational ability.
German Navy in action against the Huthis
The German Navy has already participated in the "Aspides" EU military mile with the "Hessen" frigate. There they were able to successfully shoot drones from the Huthi militia and surely escort 27 merchant ships. This experience will now also be of great benefit to the current mission of the "Hamburg".

concerns within the Bundeswehr
concern for the lack of protection of the "Hamburg" frigate increases among the Bundeswehr soldiers. Despite the advanced equipment and radar monitoring of the Saxony-Class frigates, there are still doubts about the safety and operational capacity of the ship.
The upcoming mission will show whether the "Hamburg" has grown to the challenges and the merchant ships can successfully protect. The safety of the crew and the ships is in the foreground.
