New find of the African swine fever in Hesse
In an unexpected find, the African swine plague was discovered south of the previous core zone near Rüsselsheim. Two other carcasses were found at Riedstadt-Leheim and on the Kühkopf in Ried in Hesse. This discovery has meant that the new restriction zone has now been expanded south to Friesenheim, Wintersheim and Weinolsheim.
The district of Mainz-Bingen is now also affected by the effects. In order to prevent further expansion of the plague, the hunters in this region play a crucial role. District Administrator Dorothea Schäfer expressed her gratitude for the committed use of the hunters. With thermal imaging cameras and specially trained carcass test dogs, the area is systematically searched for infected wild boar.
The restriction zone provides for a ban on hunting and a leash for dogs. Especially along the Rhine, where wild boar populations are strongly represented, the population should avoid the protection zone and keep calm. This is the only way to control and insulate infected animals.
The population is therefore urgently asked to keep the area calm and to refrain from activities such as cycling or walking. Any kind of noise that could startle the animals should be avoided. Furthermore, a leash for dogs and a ban on food remains in the zone applies, since infected food could favor the further spread of the virus.
The remaining areas of the Mainz-Bingen district are not yet affected by the African swine fever. However, the measures and search for infected animals are continued to ensure that the disease contains quickly. The population is called to actively contribute to the prevention of further spread.
- There is a ban on hunting in the restriction zone.
- obligation to make a leash for dogs in all affected areas.
- Avoidance of noise and activities that wild boars could drive away.
- The protective zone along the Rhine should be avoided.
- don't leave any leftovers so as not to attract the animals.
