Cyber attack on schools in Kitzingen: data encrypted, lessons paralyzed!

In an alarming cyber attack, the data of seven schools in the Kitzingen district was encrypted by Hacker. The unknown perpetrators used ransomware to paralyze the IT systems of the Erich Kästner School, the Realschule, the Armin Knab-Gymnasium and other educational institutions. Access to important data and administrative services is currently impossible, the district office announced. Schools are under pressure and the lessons are severely restricted because the internal WiFi has been switched off.

Currently working on an emergency operation to maintain everyday school life. While there is no information about possible ransom demands at the moment, the data from students, including grades and birthday information, remain inaccessible for the time being. A team of experts, together with the district office and an IT service provider, is now trying to clarify the incident. Forensic investigations are underway, while the Commissioner Cybercrime of the Würzburg Criminal Police and the Bavarian State Office for Security in Information Technology are determined in parallel.
