Malchiner police officer sentenced to 2.5 years in prison: violence and scandal
In an amazing turn of the events, a police officer from Malchin (Mecklenburg Lake District) was sentenced to a prison sentence of two and a half years for a brutal attack. The incident, which caused great sensation in both the population and in the media, took place on New Year's Eve 2018/19. The Rostock Higher Regional Court rejected the revision of the 58-year-old official, which means that the police officer not only has to go to prison, but could also lose his civil servant status and pension claims.
The convicted and his son-in-law had repeatedly denied the incident and were initially acquitted at the district court in 2021. However, the public prosecutor made an appeal, which led to a review of the case. Finally, in January 2023, the policeman was found guilty of dangerous bodily harm in a comprehensive taking of evidence at the Neubrandenburg District Court.
The brutal events
One of the most shocking details is that the act of violence began with a personal conflict between the policeman and a neighbor who was apparently influenced by frustration and alcohol. The argument occurred in a game library led by the police's wife. Suddenly the situation escalated; After a first attack in the game library, the victim was dragged “in the police handle” in his apartment, where the attack continued with blows and kicks, including the use of broken billiards.
The judge explained that the neighbor was brutally injured and left helpless for hours before the police were alerted. It turned out that the perpetrators first came up with an "alibi history" to cover up their role.
Failed police work and Skandal
Court and the public prosecutor expressed criticism of the handling of the case by the police authorities. Judge Unterflöhner emphasized the numerous breakdowns that were made during the investigation, especially in terms of security. For example, a cleaner only found the remains of the billiards in the neighboring house, which were stained with blood. This negligence in police work was described as scandalous.
The appeal chamber of the district court in Neubrandenburg sentenced the police to an even higher punishment than originally requested by the public prosecutor. The son -in -law also received a suspended sentence of one and a half years and both also have to pay 25,000 euros in pain and suffering to the victim. Ultimately, the attempts by the defense of releasing the client were not accepted, and the judicial authorities did not seem to believe the allegations of the accused about the alleged sexual harassment by the neighbor.
