Lübtheen shows courage: 2,700 cigarette butts collected in just one day!
Lübtheen, Deutschland - In a powerful environmental protection act, committed members of the Nature and Environmental Protection Griese area in Lübtheen (Ludwigslust-Parchim district) collected almost 2,700 cigarette butts from nature last weekend. The collectors were active in different locations in the city, including at supermarket parking spaces. With information stands, flyers and free ashtrays, passers -by were made aware of the serious dangers of cigarette waste that contain over 7,000 toxins - a fatal threat to animals and plants.
A total of remarkable 754 tilts were collected in one day alone. This initiative is part of a major problem: According to estimates by the World Health Organization, around 70 billion cigarettes in Germany land on the ground every year. Such actions illustrate urgency to raise awareness of plastic and cigarette waste in our environment, and invite the public to recognize their responsibility towards nature.
