30 years of the summer camp: Youth fire brigades celebrate in the lake plate
A very special event is currently taking place in the Mecklenburg Lake District: The traditional summer camp for youth fire brigades celebrates its 30th anniversary in Neuendorf. In addition to the local adolescents, young rescue workers from Poland and Romania are also present this year, which underlines the international character of this important meeting.
The development of the infrastructure
The camp that takes place on a former military site has changed a lot over the years. In 1992 launched by Josef Augustin, the former district fire chief of the old district of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the area was initially shaped by old Bundeswehr vehicles and a barbed wire fence. Today it is the home for numerous training opportunities and activities that are available to the over 500 participants.
A look at the past week
The current summer week offers young people from different countries the opportunity to test and expand their skills. Instead of dealing with cell phones, the participants obviously enjoy the challenging training course in the fire brigade center, where they have to demonstrate their skill with breathing apparatus in complete darkness. These activities not only promote practical skills, but also the sense of community among the young people.
Meaning for community
The summer camp is not only a place of further training for prospective lifesavers, but also an important part of regional community life. The extension of the rescue control center and the conversion of the bed house into a modern office building show the commitment of the district for fire training and the security of the citizens. Thomas Junge, member of the district youth arm, emphasizes how important it is to maintain and develop such a training center.
A look at the future
With the continuing success of the summer camp, close cooperation between the youth fire brigades from different countries will continue to be expected in the future. Events like this promote international exchange and cooperation in the field of civil protection and fire engineering. The introduction of new sanitary facilities and fortified parking spaces shows the continuous striving to improve the infrastructure and further optimize the conditions for the young people.
The anniversary is opened by an impressive fire show and illustrates the diverse opportunities for leisure activities within the camp. The event is not only a celebration of rich experiences, but also inspires the next generations of firefighters and creates a strong network across national borders.
