Neighborhood GiveBox: A contribution to sustainability in Mettmann
The children's and family center Rheinstraße in Mettmann relies on community and sustainability
In Mettmann in Rheinstraße there is a new way for the local community to live together more sustainably: the "neighborhood giftbox". This initiative of the children's and family center enables residents to share objects and thus make a contribution to the protection of the environment.
The "neighborhood giftbox" stands right in front of the input of the center and is accessible to everyone, around the clock. Since the introduction, many people have used the opportunity to take objects that they no longer need, and others will enjoy taking them with them free of charge. From books to toys to clothing and household items - the diversity in the GiveBox is impressive.
The idea behind the "neighborhood giftbox" is simple and effective: a way to continue using objects instead of throwing them away. This not only creates added value for the environment, but also for the community. The children of the children's council of the family center have also actively campaigned for the project by distributing flyers in the neighborhood to draw attention to this new exchange.
Kita manager Semra Konca emphasizes the importance that each member of the community can experience and use it from the “neighborhood giftbox”. This initiative not only promotes sustainability, but also strengthens the sense of community. More and more people join this concept and benefit from the simple type of exchange.
