from Vice-chief to the excluded: AfD MP Schaufert loses party offices in Saarland
Christoph Schaufert, former AfD vice -chief in Saarland, was occupied by the party's Federal Arbitration Court with a two -year lock. This means that he is not allowed to hold any party offices for the next two years. This step follows the procedure of a group of four people to which Schaufert belonged. Before the state election in 2022, they secretly withdrew the state list of the AfD, which led to the first list candidates could not move into the state parliament.
The party reacted to this violation of the internal party democracy by demanding the exclusions of the four participants. Michel Dörr and Patrick Ruttar from the party were excluded from the party. Schaufert and René Selzer, on the other hand, received a ban on office for two years. They had made it possible to withdraw the state list by exchanging trustees.
Christoph Schaufert, a former CDU member, joined the AfD in 2016 and quickly made a career in the party. After moving into the Saarland day, he was elected deputy state chairman in June. The historian must now hand over these offices on the basis of the arbitration. As early as April 2024, Schaufert was released by the Catholic Church from the board of directors of a parish. He made a complaint with the Bishop of Trier because he considers the exclusion to be unjustified.
The decision of the AfD Federal Arbitration Court marks the end of the party internal legal process. Markus Loew, chairman of the AfD Saarpfalz, critically commented on the arbitration saying and called him "too mild". However, he emphasized that the party must accept the judgment, even if it does not meet expectations. So far, Schaufert has not publicly commented on his lock.
