Marina Marquardt elected as the new chairwoman of SVV in Eisenhüttenstadt: AfD fails in the event of a deputy election

Political surprise in Eisenhüttenstadt: CDU candidate Marina Marquardt elected chairman of the city council

On Monday, CDU politician Marina Marquardt caused a political surprise in Eisenhüttenstadt. The AfD, as the strongest faction in the city council (SVV), surprisingly waived its own candidate and proposed Marquardt for the chair. In a short coordination, she prevailed against Holger Wachsmann from the SPD/FDP faction with 14 to 12 votes.

The choice of the first deputy was also exciting. AfD candidate Hans-Peter Nitschke was proposed in the first ballot, but did not receive enough votes. It was only in the second ballot that Bernd Schneider from the Fürstenberg Citizens' Alliance prevailed against Nitschke with 17 to 9 votes.

The choice of the second deputy also brought surprises. Despite the renewed nomination by the AfD, Nitschke was defeated against the candidate Heidi Wischmann from the left with 11 to 14 votes.

The fact that the AfD was not successful in any of the election rounds was attributed to the lack of personnel and the lack of political partners. Of the nine seats that the AfD had won in the city council, only six could be occupied.

These new developments in Eisenhüttenstadt throw a light on the current political changes in the region and the dynamics of the local political landscape. The appointment of Marina Marquardt as chairman of SVV marks a turning point in the cooperation between the various political parties on site.
