Algae flood and fish death: Oldenburg's waters in the crisis!
Algae flood and fish death: Oldenburg's waters in the crisis!
In Oldenburg, the waters are in an alarming state: few fish, massive algae formation and a drastic decline in biodiversity shape the lakes and trenches of the city. Anglers report on his disappointing experiences and miss domestic species such as birds and otter. "There is hardly any living," complains Jan Schoßhardt, an old rabbit in the angler scene. Even the Wallsee, which was once a popular fishing spot, now shows itself as a cloudy water - too flat and filled.
This threatening development also leads to serious flood risks. The rainwater retention basins, which were once intended as effective water reservoirs, can no longer hold large amounts of water due to the progressive sludge. In the event of strong rainfall, the water threatens to run into the adjacent residential areas. Mayor Jörg Saba confirms that the city is actively working on solutions, but the financial means are limited. A vicious circle that makes it difficult to make necessary measures - the living conditions for flora and fauna also suffer massively. More information on this is here to be found.
