E-mountain bikes: fun in the rise, challenge in relegation
In the emerging e-mountain bike communities, a remarkable change can be observed. E-mountain bikes now also make steeper trails accessible to the Alpine region and attract many new cyclists. However, the combination of technology and leisure fun not only ensures joy, but also additional challenges.
a trend with pitfalls
e-mountain bikes are enjoying growing popularity because they facilitate access to untouched mountain landscapes. Katharina Grein, bike guide in Sölden, notices that many hikers appreciate the new mobility: "Many come here as hikers and go home as a biker," she reports. But while the upward journey became easier by supporting the electric motor, the departure requires a different kind of skill. On the other hand, André Schmidt, editor -in -chief of the magazine "Mountainbike", indicates that there are many drivers whose skills are often insufficient in dealing with these heavier bikes, which weigh between 20 and 25 kilograms.
The challenge of the descent
One of the biggest hurdles for new e-mountain bikers lies in the technique of departure. In contrast to the climb, the downward drive can become an opaque challenge. "Driving in steep descents requires specific skills," explains Schmidt. It is crucial to brake dosed and selectively to avoid overheating and, in the worst case, the failure of the brakes. Painting also plays an important role: "Do not sit in the saddle, but stand bent so that you can better control the wheel," he adds.
The role of security formation
In view of the increased number of accidents in the Alps, it is essential to prepare adult beginners for the challenges of e-mountain bike use. An introductory technology course is therefore considered sensible in order to convey basic knowledge and avoid overestimation. Grein encourages newcomers to take the time to gain experience, and knows: "Then the departure is no longer a cramp." It is important that bikers do not shy away from pushing the wheel when they feel uncomfortableroute selection and weather conditions
The choice of the route can be crucial for a successful mountain bike experience. In bike parks, the levels of difficulty are usually clearly marked. However, if you go to unknown trails, you should find out more locally. Schmidt advises to ask about recommendations in bike shops or at the tourist office before starting a tour. The weather also has a significant influence on the mobility of a route. A seemingly simple trail can suddenly become a dangerous obstacle when wet.
