Solidarity campaign after severe floods in Saarland: donations flow for flood victims

Support for flood victims in the St. Wendel district

Immediately before the Pentecost Festival, a violent storm front hit the Saarland. Violent constant rain in the St. Wendel district led to severe floods and considerable damage. When District Administrator Udo Recktenwald described the situation as a "major damage situation", it was clear that urgent help was needed.

In order to help those affected quickly and unbureaucratically, the district of St. Wendel and the Kreissparkasse have jointly set up a donation account. So far, over 55,000 euros have been collected. This generous willingness to donate shows that solidarity and cohesion are of great importance in difficult times.

The Kreissparkasse St. Wendel has doubled each donation up to 500 euros and provided a total of over 20,000 euros. Dirk Hoffmann, the CEO of the Kreissparkasse, emphasized: "It is important to us to make our contribution and help the flood victims. We are proud to stick together and work together."

other savings banks, such as the Kreissparkasse Ahrweiler, also participated in the fundraising campaign and transferred 10,000 euros. Dieter Zimmermann, CEO of the Kreissparkasse Ahrweiler, said: "It is a matter close to our heart to help people in need and show solidarity. Precisely because we have already experienced similar things, we know how important support is in difficult times."

In addition to the numerous citizens, clubs and schools have also offered their support. The district association of the Saar-Land-Women and the Cusanus-Gymnasium St. Wendel are just two examples that have actively participated in the fundraising campaign. Further donations from companies and associations are expected and should be received in the coming weeks.

The collected funds are distributed to those affected, the damage of which is over 1,000 euros. These donations will supplement state instant aid and offer those affected additional financial support. So far, 190 applicants have received immediate help, 170 of whom have also received further donations.
