CSD Pirna in need: Donation campaign for queer rights started
of the CSD Pirna: an indispensable contact point for queer people
The recently taken place in Christopher Street Day (CSD) event in Pirna has not only brought together tens of thousands of people, but also put the future of the CSD club in danger. The association now wants to secure its existence with a call for donations.
The challenges for the association
After a massive increase in the number of participants to over 6,000 people who demonstrated for Queere Rights, the association is now facing a significant financial bottleneck. CSD boss Christian Hesse explains that the event has caused more costs than planned, which has led to a minus of up to 15,000 euros. The original plan was to organize an event for 3,500 participants, but ultimately additional security forces and buildings had to be organized for safe implementation.
political tensions and public support
The political tensions in the region became particularly clear when the Mayor of AfD, Tim Lochner, refused to raise a rainbow flag at the town hall during the CSD. This incident led to public outrage and called for the use of people from various cities who showed their support for Queere Rights. The Evangelical Church in Pirna set an example by raising a rainbow flag, which further sparked.
call to donate
In order to improve the financial situation of the association, the CSD Pirna has initiated a donation campaign. The aim is to collect 15,000 euros. If there is a possibility not to achieve this goal, the club's rooms in Langen Straße 43 in Pirna could be closed. The rooms are not only important for the club members, but also an important point of contact for the queer community in the entire region of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Mountains, where, for example, consultations for trans people or readings take place.
Community solidarity
1,155 euros have already been donated since the start of the campaign. This feedback encourages Hesse and gives hope that the entire donation goal can be reached. "It would be a bitter loss if we could no longer be active," says Hesse, talks about the urgency that visibility and support for queer people in Pirna are guaranteed. The CSD Pirna not only represents a celebration of love and diversity, but is also a memorial for the ongoing challenges with which the queer community is confronted.
