Immerse yourself in the secret world of moths: illuminated evening in the Wedeler March on July 10th!

Discover the fascinating world of moths

Nachtfalter are not only moths, but a diverse and colorful animal group that is often underestimated. In order to draw more attention to these fascinating animals, the Nabu Vogelstation in the Wedeler Marsch invites you to a light evening on July 10th from 10 p.m. in cooperation with the renowned butterfly expert Birgitt Piepgras.

At this special event, special lights are attracted with special lights without disturbing them. The participants have the unique opportunity to look at these animals up close and even take them into their hands. Birgitt Piepgras emphasizes: "For most people, the illuminated evening is the first encounter with night folds. Often they only see these animals in flight, but have never had the opportunity to look at them in peace."

There is a lot of interesting things to discover: In Schleswig-Holstein, around 850 species of nocturnal large butterflies are at home, of which over 700 have already been documented by the Birgitt Piepgras working group. During the luminaire evening, the expert will explain the behavior and meaning of these animals and clarify about possible risks and protective measures.

Since the number of participants is limited and the event may be canceled in bad weather, registration is absolutely necessary. The NABU also asks for a donation. To register, please visit www.nabu-hamburg.de/termine.

Another lighting evening for moth will take place on Friday, September 27th, from 7.30 p.m. at the same bird station. Interested participants should bring a flashlight because the path from the parking lot to the event location is not illuminated (NABU, 6.7.2024).
