Who will be the sports star of the August in Donau-Schiller?
In August the "Sportstar" of the Donau-Eller region is chosen again. This time, the focus is on five outstanding athletes who have shone in the past few weeks through remarkable achievements. The selection of these candidates goes entirely to the readers of the Neu-Ulmer Zeitung and the Illertisser Zeitung, who can decide on the vote. The title will succeed Norbert Nieder, who received the most encouragement in July and was therefore awarded the editorial team.
One of the nominees, Elias Wekemann, who is considered a goal machine, has apparently proven last season that he is a key player for SV Tiefenbach. With 28 goals in 20 games, the 28-year-old contributed most of the success of his team. In addition, he scored all four goals of a 4: 3 victory over Gerlenhofen in the first game of the season in the district league A3. Unfortunately, he had to seriously injure himself in a derby a week later, which throws a shadow on its impressive shape.
nominated sports talents
Another outstanding athlete who has moved into the spotlight is Sandra Stenzel-Gruber. As the daughter of the Taekwondo pioneer Reinhold Gruber, she wrote history in Germany: In Bavaria she became the first woman to reach the 8th Dan in Taekwondo. Her active role in her father's Taekwondo School as well as her responsibility as a teacher and deputy managing director in several cities show their commitment in sport.
Markus Ponath, the goalkeeper of the soccer regional league FV Illertissen, has also proven itself. In his previous season he only had to grab once after six games. The young player only changed from third division club FC Ingolstadt this season to gain more experience. It is obviously a decision that pays off.
Nico Bretzel represents the Bundesliga basketball player from Ratiopharm Ulm. The 17-year-old grown not only experienced all the development levels in the organization, but also extended his contract for another year. His loyalty and dedication to the Ulm basketball players are impressive and testify to his passion for sport.
Felix Higl has emerged as a prime goal scorer of SSV Ulm 1846 in the 2nd Bundesliga. He not only scored the first goal for the SSV in this league, but was also responsible for the team's only goal against Düsseldorf. These services are particularly worth mentioning for a player of HIGS size and show his potential at this level.
