Albert Säger: painter and city designer - special exhibition in Villingen
A look at the legacy of Albert Säger in Villingen-Schwenningen
The Villingen painter Albert Säger, who lived from 1866 to 1924, left significant artistic traces in his hometown. Thanks to its facade paintings, among others at today's Café Dammert and Café Raben, his contribution to urban design in Villingen-Schwenningen is still visible. Säger not only embellished houses, but also created numerous paintings and drawings that impressively depict scenes in his living environment.
The variety of his work
Säger was known to use photography and painting as sources of inspiration. These techniques allowed him to create individual works that combine both historical and modern aspects of art. His work reflects his search for an identity in a city that was changing and reinvented itself. This artistic reflection is crucial to understand how the self -image of a city develops over time.
special exhibition on commemoration
In the course of Albert Säger's 100th day of death, a special exhibition takes place in the Franciscan Museum, which presents its most important works. This exhibition can be seen until October 13, 2024 and is supported by an accompanying book. a unique exhibition location
