Altentreptow looking for a bathing place: hope of natural pool lake

Altentreptow faces a challenge that not only influences leisure activities for the citizens, but also a sign of the city's financial situation. The project to set up a bathing area on the Klosterberg has become a central topic in urban politics, but there are several hurdles that need to be overcome.

Financing remains uncertain

The idea of creating a natural bathing system has been discussed for years. However, the city administration continues to wait for a grant notice of 700,000 euros, which was guaranteed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs. This gap has led to the plans to stall because important steps for implementation are missing. At the end of 2023 it became clear that the lower legal supervisory authority at the district rejected the approval for the application on the grounds that the city was in a difficult budget situation.

Missing budget equalization

The declared budget compensation on which the administration is dependent on the bathing area was not able to operate sustainably in 2024. This illustrates the financial difficulties of the city, which could continue to exist in the coming years. The bathroom option is also not defined as a mandatory task, which makes the funding opportunities further difficult.

Sight out alternative solutions

In view of the uncertainty regarding the funding, the Altentreptower voters have already examined alternative locations in the past. The focus is in particular on the peripheral channel and the great lense. The parliamentary group leader Mirko Renger reported on the first positive assessments by the State Office for Agriculture and the Environment (Stalu), which, however, were put into perspective by the mayor. She criticized the water quality and flow conditions at the potential locations.

Responsibility and security first.

The citizens of Altentreptow hope for a safe bathing area that corresponds to the legal requirements. Claudia Ellgoth emphasizes the city's responsibility for the safety of the bathers and explains that use is only possible if all requirements are observed. Despite the challenges, she is optimistic that the plans for the Klosterberg will not be completely abandoned.

Hope for progress

With a wink, Renger notes that the voter community has not given up and continues to strive for solutions. "There must be any way to create a natural bathing area that is not only attractive for the Altentreptower, but also meets all legal requirements," says Renger. So the discussion remains exciting while the city is waiting for the next step.
