New bridge for cyclists: improvement in traffic safety in Hausen
The municipality of Hausen plans to improve traffic safety for cyclists and pedestrians. A new construction of a walking and cycle path bridge over the Regnitz is tackled to optimize the accessibility between Hausen and Kersbach train station.
important step for the transport infrastructure
The planned bridge will have a span of around 66 meters and is built in the area of the water wheel between the Hausen lock and the hydropower plant. With the construction of this bridge, the busy district road can be dispensed with, which will be a significant improvement for the safety of cyclists and pedestrians. The construction work is scheduled to begin in autumn 2024 and the completion is sought in 2025.
Financial support and total costs
The government of Upper Franconia has granted an amount of 2.10 million euros for this project. The total costs for the bridge amount to around 3.18 million euros, whereby the grants are eligible for around 2.60 million euros. This means that around 80 percent of the costs are funded by the Financial Effect Act (Art. 13 C BayFAG). These funding come from the Bavarian state budget and are a further confirmation of the commitment of the Bavarian state parliament to improve the regional infrastructure.
Expansion of the cycle path network in the district
This initiative is part of a larger plan to compact and improve the network of cycle paths in the Forchheim district. In addition, the section from the roundabout on the Staatsstraße ST 2244 to east of the hydropower plant is supplemented with a new walking and bike path, which makes it possible to get safely and completely separately from road traffic to Hausen. In the future, the planned metropoly cycle path from Bamberg to Nuremberg will be integrated along the Main-Donau Canal, which creates further options for cyclists.
advantages for the community
The new cycle path connection and the bridge are not only important for cycling, but also for the entire community of Hausen. A better bike path connection not only promotes environmental protection through the reduction of car traffic, but also increases the quality of life of the residents because secure traffic routes stimulate movement and leisure activities. These are essential factors that increase the attractiveness of the municipality of Hausen for residents and visitors.
outlook for the future
The commitment to a better transport infrastructure shows that small communities such as Hausen can make great progress through targeted investments and projects. These developments not only strengthen local economy and tourism, but also promote awareness of sustainable mobility. The anticipation for the new bridge and the extensions of the cycle path network is clearly noticeable and represents an important step in the right direction.
