Wolves threaten sheep farming: farmers protest in Hanover!

pasture holders in Lower Saxony plan vigils before the state parliament in Hanover in order to protest against inadequate wolf policy and poor herd protection measures. The demonstrations are scheduled for Wednesday to Friday next week from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., as the support association of German sheep farm announced. The reason for the protest is a recent incident in which a wolf near Scheppau attacked a herd of sheep, which led to the death of around 22 animals.

The farmers are alerted because the sheep panicked during the attack and scattered themselves into surrounding forests and on streets. The helpers had to laboriously search and collect the animals. Despite these events, the call for an active inventory management of the wolves remains unheard of. The support association also criticizes the insufficient support measures for pasture animals and the financial burdens from herd protection, which far exceed state funding. 55 wolf packs are currently living in Lower Saxony, and the shooting of problematic animals is only allowed under strict requirements. According to information from www.faz.net in September at the EU level for reducing the wolf's protection status, which opens up the possibility of regulating the inventory.
