Heavy rear -end collision on the A1 near Dötlingen: slightly injured and high damage

On Friday afternoon there was a rear -end collision on the A1 near Dötlingen, which ended in another collision. According to the police, a total of two saddle trains and several cars were involved in the incident. Fortunately, the damage, both on the vehicles and the people, remained quite low, apart from two slightly injured and an injured child.

The collision occurred when a 46-year-old driver of a Romanian saddle train had to slow down due to a sudden traffic jam. However, the following 65-year-old driver of a Dutch saddle train reacted too late and drove onto a motorhome traveling between the two saddle trains. This motorhome from Borken was trapped by the impact and finally had to be towed. According to estimates, the property damage was around 50,000 euros. Fortunately, no one was injured in this first collision.

Following accident due to too low distance

The subsequent accident occurred when the road was blocked due to the initial accident. A 61-year-old driver from Burghaun who was traveling with his Audi braked. This meant that a 29-year-old Skoda driver from Aachen could no longer dodge him in time and opened on the rear of the Audi. As a result, there was a chain reaction in which three other vehicles were involved, which could not brake due to the small distance.

In this second collision, the 45-year-old passenger in the Audi and a six-year-old child were slightly injured. The Skoda driver also suffered minor injuries. The three vehicles were no longer ready to drive and had to be towed. Although there are no serious injuries, total damage of around 20,000 euros was documented. In this context, criminal proceedings for negligent bodily harm were initiated against the drivers.

Security aspects in road traffic

The incidents on the A1 throw a light on the important topic of safety in road traffic. In particular, holding the necessary distance has proven to be crucial to avoid collisions. The pressure to quickly get to the goal leads many drivers to be impatient and drive too close.

Experts advise to keep a sufficient distance from the front vehicle, especially on highways. This gives you the time to react if the traffic traveling ahead should suddenly slow down. In this case, a sufficient distance could have prevented the injuries and damage in the second part of the accident. Such incidents can not only bring exertion for those involved, but also consider the flow of traffic considerably.

Traffic accidents such as those in Dötlingen are an urgent reminder for all drivers to always be vigilant and to follow the traffic regulations. Safe driving begins with the responsibility of each individual on the street, and compliance with the rules is one of the most important aspects to ensure the safety of all road users.

Causes of rear -end collisions

In Germany, rear -end accidents are a common type of accident, which are often due to carelessness or too little distance. According to a study by the German Road Safety Council (DVR), about 30% of all traffic accidents pass on motorways through rear -end accidents. Factors such as the sudden braking of vehicles, the drivers' fatigue, distractions through smartphones or other electronic devices as well as unfavorable weather conditions play a crucial role. Understanding these causes can help prevent future incidents and increase traffic safety.

Traffic safety campaigns are an approach to raise awareness of safe driving and emphasize the need for a reasonable distance. The introduction of spacers and assistance systems in modern vehicles also has the potential to reduce the number of these accidents. It is crucial that drivers understand both the importance of traffic safety and use technical aids to minimize the risk of themselves and others.

Statistics on traffic accidents in Germany

According to the Federal Statistical Office, over 2.6 million traffic accidents were registered in Germany in 2022. About 360,000 of these accidents were classified as personal accidents, with around 2,700 deaths and more than 300,000 injuries. The amount of economic damage caused by traffic accidents is estimated at around 90 billion euros per year. Current accidents make up a significant share and are not uncommon, especially on highways.

An essential aspect that contributes to these statistics is the change in behavior of road users in recent years. With the increasing use of smartphones while driving, distractions have increased, which affects the number of accidents. It is estimated that distractions are responsible for around 15% of all traffic accidents, which underlines the need for clarification and prevention campaigns.
