Rotkreuz-Laden: A place of encounter and solidarity in Neuss
In the middle of the busy hustle and bustle of Friedrichstraße 33, the Red Cross shop of the German Red Cross (DRK) not only houses clothing at affordable prices, but also an inspiring story of community and support. Founded in 2015, this second-hand shop is a continuation of a tradition of over 20 years that provides people in need and creates a room for encounters.
Every day, around 60 visitors flock to the shop to benefit from the diverse selection. Nobody is asked about their financial situation here; Instead, customers enjoy a friendly atmosphere that the 25 volunteers created. These committed women aged 55 to 75 are the heart of the shop and ensure that everything runs smoothly. "Our volunteers always have an open ear for the visitors," explains Saskia Matheisen from the DRK district association Neuss.
voluntary work as a foundation
The voluntary work is not only a service in the community, but also a source of joy and fulfillment for the helpers. The shop not only offers a platform for shopping, but also acts as a social meeting point. Here not only clothing is selected and donated, but also interpersonal relationships are linked. Many of the volunteers bring their language skills to assist in migration advice as interpreters and thus support people who are looking for orientation in their new environment.
The range of the Red Cross shop can be described as high-quality, and the prices are affordable for everyone. "According to our estimate, around 95 percent of our customers are in the situation to need financial support," continued Matheisen. Nevertheless, nobody is confronted with their situation, and everyone is welcome, regardless of their background. This aspect of the shop also ensures that a variety of people are attracted to people who can feel comfortable in a safe and supportive environment.
award for commitment
In recognition for the valuable work that is done in this shop, the Red Cross shop received a nomination for the volunteer price "voluntarily. For others", which was launched by the Rhein-Kreis Neuss in cooperation with RWE Power and NGZ. The jury has already selected ten candidates for the audience award, and the vote will take place from September 19th to 22nd. This award could be a great way to increase the visibility and recognition for the commitment of the helpers.
Every purchase in this shop is more than just a purchase; It is a support for the community and a step towards solidarity. The Red Cross shop shows how important and valuable voluntary work is and underlines that each one can make a difference-both for themselves and for others.
In the heart of Desrheinian circle, the Red Cross shop realizes the ideal of cooperation and support at a time when solidarity is more than ever asked. Through his commitment and the tireless work of the volunteers, this shop remains a shining example of social responsibility and community spirit.
