Old newspaper volumes saved: Investment in the Verden historiography

New era for the Verden regional history: newspaper years have been restored and bound since 1868

The old newspaper cohorts of the "Verden Advertising Blatt" have a new future: The Verden Documentation Center (DOZ 20) has restored the old leaves using generous sponsors and secured as valuable folios for the coming generations.

The inventory comprises a total of 108 bound newspaper volumes, which have been published since the year 1868 until December 1944. These newspapers are an invaluable source for regional researchers and those interested in history who regularly visit the DOZ 20 to understand historical events in the region.

In addition to the volumes of the "Verden Advertising Blatt", two other important volumes were also restored: "The Black Corps, newspaper of the NSDAP protection seasons from January to December 1940 and the" Verden Official Provisy "from January 1947 to April 1948.

investment in the history of the region

The frequent use of the newspaper volumes caused damage that must now be remedied in order to keep the inventory accessible to future users. Three spacious sponsors, including the Foundation of the Kreissparkasse Verden and the VGH Foundation, supported the DOZ20 in financing the restoration work.

The participants recently met in the Buchbinderei Focken to examine the progress of the work. The book binding master Sieglinde Hoidis informed the representatives of the sponsors and members of the DOZ20 about the current status of the restoration. Thanks to the commitment of the sponsors, all volumes will probably be available again for regional researchers from mid/end of August.

The DOZ 20 also took precautions to obtain the restored folios in good condition even when used intensively. These measures are intended to ensure that the valuable newspaper volumes will continue to serve as an important historical source in the future.
