Europa Möbelstiftung: Over 57,000 euros for environmental protection projects!
October 28, 2025 was an important day for environmental protection in Germany. On this day, the Board of Trustees of the European Furniture Environmental Foundation met and approved generous funding of over 57,000 euros for numerous projects that are dedicated to preserving and caring for our natural environment. Ulf Rebenschütz, the foundation's board member, commented on the large number of projects submitted that demonstrate commitment to environmental protection.
Particular highlights among the funded projects are the support of 10,000 euros for the Slow Motion Ahrensburg gGmbH, which is dedicated to the preservation of old fruit and wild fruit varieties in northern Germany, as well as the funding of 15,000 euros for the Turmstationen Deutschland e.V. initiative to restore field trees along field paths. But these are just some of the projects that benefit from the foundation.
Diverse support for environmental projects
The commitment of the Europa Möbel-Umweltstiftung is also reflected in the financial support of other local initiatives. The Bottrop Forest Education Center received 6,700 euros for renewing the roof of its clubhouse, while the Nabu Sachsenheim project received 3,080 euros for the natural design of the meadow in front of the Schmid's Domino Home Company furniture store. Further funding will go to the construction of a forest education tent camp with 8,000 euros and to the ecological forest conversion on the Müritz in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania with 12,000 euros for the German Wildlife Foundation.
In addition, 2,500 euros were provided for the ecological Hofherberge gGmbH to plant a fruit tree hedge at their place of learning and experience. This variety of projects shows how important it is to preserve the environment and promote regional initiatives.
Pedestrian traffic: A mainstay of mobility
Another topic that contributes to improving environmental awareness is walking, which is one of the oldest and most sustainable forms of mobility in Germany. Over 80 percent of the population enjoys or very enjoys walking, and almost one in three trips is made on foot. Children, older people and women in particular use this type of transport intensively. In February 2025, the Federal Ministry of Transport (BMV) developed a nationwide pedestrian traffic strategy that aims to create more safety and quality of life for pedestrians.
The new regulations include improvements such as the provision of adequate spaces, more pedestrian crossings and more effective parking space management. The 30 km/h speed limit on main roads, especially near schools and playgrounds, should now be set more simply. This gives municipalities more scope for action to promote pedestrian traffic and strengthen intermodal mobility chains.
Promoting walking not only shows how exercise contributes to health, but also how it supports climate and environmental protection. Since then, projects that affect pedestrian traffic can be funded through the Federal Ministry's initiative, which represents a positive development for our cities.
Overall, it can be said that both the European Furniture Environmental Foundation and the current developments in the area of pedestrian traffic represent important steps towards sustainability and environmental awareness. It remains to be seen what other innovative initiatives and measures will come our way in the future.
