REWE starts Veganuary: Support for forest projects through vegan orders!
January is dedicated to Veganuary, an international initiative that encourages the promotion of a plant-based diet. The REWE Group has decided to actively support this movement by offering a special day of action in the REWE delivery service on January 21, 2026. Customers who order at least one vegan product on this day will help support two regional projects run by the German Forest Protection Association by donating 10 cents per product. This campaign is not only interesting for vegan beginners, but also for anyone who wants to make their diet more sustainable.
At REWE, some vegan products are particularly popular. Oat milk, tofu, Skyr alternatives and mortadella alternatives are very popular. Also new to the list of favorites are smoked tofu, vegan liver sausage and various quark alternatives. In total, the REWE delivery service offers around 1,500 vegan items, not including fruit, vegetables and water. The initiative aims to encourage customers to try plant-based alternatives and thus contribute to a balanced diet.
Sustainable nutrition in focus
A vigilant attention to the environment also requires a fundamental reorientation of our food system. According to the EAT-Lancet Commission, it is necessary to develop sustainable nutritional concepts in order to meet the challenges of a growing global population. The Planetary Health Diet, which was developed by an international team of 37 experts, places a clear focus on plant-based foods in order to combine health and climate protection.
The REWE Group has set itself the goal of implementing this model in Germany and Austria. There are currently over 1,800 vegan products available at REWE and even 2,700 plant-based items available in the delivery service, which contribute to a healthy and sustainable diet. The “Food For Future” and “REWE Bio+vegan” initiatives offer a wide range of plant-based alternatives to bring the principles of the Planetary Health Diet into consumers’ everyday lives.
The principles of the Planetary Health Diet
A key concept of the Planetary Health Diet is the reduced use of animal products and the conscious consumption of plant-based foods. Daily servings include vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts and whole grains, while red meat and saturated fats are greatly minimized. These changes are intended not only to prevent chronic diseases, but also to significantly reduce the ecological footprint of food production.
A large part of the current diet means that we are already exceeding three out of six ecological boundaries, including in relation to climate change and species extinction. This is why the EAT-Lancet Commission calls for a global shift towards a plant-based diet to respect the sustainable limits of our planet.
So if you don't have anything planned for January 21st, this could be the perfect time to make new, sustainable food choices and make a positive contribution to your health and the environment. Let's go on a vegan journey of discovery together and exploit the culinary potential of our nature!
