Climate conscious! Schwalmtal starts book club with exciting theme evenings
In the small Schwalmtal there is exciting news for everyone who is interested in climate change. Climate manager Michael Buijzen has confirmed that the popular book club will continue. The meetings will take place in the Ganges Room, Markt 20, and offer a wonderful opportunity to exchange ideas about climate change and expand knowledge about it from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The book club cooperates with the bookstore at the cathedral, where participants can receive a 50% discount on selected books. If you are interested, you can easily add yourself to the list of participants at the Schwalmtal municipality's info point so that you don't miss anything.
Books and discussion evenings
The next book club dates promise exciting and educational evenings. On December 4, 2025, the book "The Future of Our Water: What Can It Do? Where Is It Missing? Who Owns It?" discussed by Sven Carolin Stüdemann and Rüdiger Braun. “Whale makes the weather: Why biological diversity saves our climate” by Frauke Fischer and Hilke Oberhansberg is also on the list for January 22, 2026. This selection is not only important for book lovers, but also helps raise awareness about the challenges of climate change.
Current topics relating to climate change will also be discussed during discussion evenings. For example, the UN climate conference, the role of gender issues in climate change and the dramatic weather extremes are on the program. These issues are particularly relevant because current climate change is rapid and, above all, man-made; it is often viewed as one of the greatest ecological and social crises of our time, as can be read on Wikipedia.
Research and challenges of climate change
The questions that arise here are diverse. How can we as a society reduce the increased CO2 emissions in order to meet global temperature targets? Since the beginning of industrialization alone, the CO2 content in the atmosphere has increased significantly. This man-made warming has the potential to have serious impacts on our environment and society. Nevertheless, there are numerous books that deal with the background to climate change and possible solutions.
Recommended reading includes titles such as Jens Beckert's "Sold Future. Why the fight against climate change threatens to fail", which points out the structural challenges of our economy, as well as "Oil to the fire. How a failed climate policy is driving the global crisis" by Kathrin Hartmann. These books are particularly important because they assume scientific consensus on climate change and offer deeper insights into the reasons for the failure of climate protection, as Deutschlandfunk Kultur notes.
The book club in Schwalmtal is therefore not only a platform for exchange, but also an active contribution to raising awareness of climate change and its diverse effects. With this in mind: Come along, bring your opinions and ideas with you and actively shape the dialogue about the future of our climate!
